Heaven and Hell #25 (NCE, 2000)

25. The angels in the Lord's heavenly kingdom far surpass the angels of the spiritual kingdom in regard to wisdom and splendor because they accept the Lord's divine nature on a deeper level. They live in love for him, and are therefore more intimately united to him. 1The reason for their excellence is that they have accepted divine truths directly into their lives and continue to do so, rather than taking them into memory and thought first, the way spiritual angels do. This means they have them engraved on their hearts and grasp them, virtually see them, within themselves. They never calculate whether or not they are true. 2They are like the people described in Jeremiah,

I will put my law in their mind and engrave it on their heart: no longer will one person teach a friend or a brother, saying, "Know Jehovah;" from the smallest to the greatest, they will know me. (Jeremiah 31:33-34)

In Isaiah, they are called "the people who have been taught by Jehovah" (Isaiah 54:13). In John 6:45-46, the Lord himself teaches that those who are taught by Jehovah are the ones who are taught by the Lord.

Footnotes:

1. Heavenly angels are far wiser than spiritual angels: 2718, 9995. On the nature of the difference between heavenly angels and spiritual angels: 2088, 2669, 2708, 2715, 3235, 3240, 4788, 7068, 8121 [8521?], 9277, 10295.

2. Heavenly angels do not reason about truths of faith because they grasp them within themselves, while spiritual angels do reason about whether they are true or not: 202, 337, 597, 607, 784, 1121, 1387 [1384?], 1398 [1385, 1394], 1919, 3246, 4448, 7680, 7877, 8780, 9277, 10786.

Heaven and Hell #25 (Harley, 1958)

25. The angels in the Lord's celestial kingdom, because of their more interior reception of the Divine of the Lord, far excel in wisdom and glory the angels who are in His spiritual kingdom for they are in love to the Lord and consequently are nearer and more closely conjoined to Him. 1These angels are such because they have received and continue to receive Divine truths at once in their life, and not in previous memory and thought, as do the spiritual angels. So they have Divine truths written in their hearts, and they perceive them, and, as it were, see them in themselves, nor do they ever reason about them, whether they are true or not. 2They are such as are described in Jeremiah:

I will put my law in their mind and will write it in their heart. They shall teach no more every one his friend and every one his brother, saying, "Know Jehovah". They shall know Me, from the least of them even to the greatest of them. Jeremiah 31:33-34.

And they are called in Isaiah,

Taught of Jehovah. Isaiah 54:13.

That the "taught of Jehovah" are those who are taught by the Lord, He Himself teaches in John 6:45-46.

Footnotes:

1. The celestial angels are incomparably wiser than the spiritual angels (Arcana Coelestia 2718, 9995). What is the distinction between the celestial angels and the spiritual angels (Arcana Coelestia 2088, 2669, 2708, 2715, 3235, 3240, 4788, 7068, 8521, 9277, 10295).

2. The celestial angels do not reason concerning the truths of faith, because they perceive them in themselves; but the spiritual angels reason concerning them whether it is so or not so (Arcana Coelestia 202, 337, 597, 607, 784, 1121, 1348, 1398, 1919, 3246, 4448, 7680, 7877, 8780, 9277, 10786).

And they are called in Isaiah:

Taught of Jehovah (Isaiah 54:13).

De Coelo et de Inferno #25 (original Latin)

"Docti a Jehovah," (54:13):

quod qui docti a Jehovah sint qui docti a Domino, docet Ipse Dominus apud Johannem 6:45-46.
