Heaven and Hell #31 (NCE, 2000)

31. The divine nature that flows from the Lord and is accepted in the third or central heaven is called heavenly, and the angels there are consequently called heavenly angels. The divine nature that flows from the Lord and is accepted in the second or intermediate heaven is called spiritual, and the angels there are consequently called spiritual angels. The divine nature, though, that flows from the Lord and is accepted in the outmost or first heaven is called natural. However, since the "natural" of that heaven is not like the "natural" of our world, but has something spiritual and heavenly within it, that heaven is called "spiritual-natural" or "heavenly-natural," and the angels there are called "spiritual-natural" or "heavenly-natural." 1The angels called spiritual-natural are the ones who accept an inflow from the intermediate or second heaven, which is the spiritual heaven, while the angels called heavenly-natural are the ones who accept an inflow from the central or third heaven, which is the heavenly heaven. Spiritual-natural and heavenly-natural angels are different from each other, but they constitute one heaven because they are all on the same level.

Footnotes:

1. There are three heavens, a central one, an intermediate one, and an outmost one, or a third, a second, and a first: 684, 8594 [9594?], 10270. The different kinds of good also follow in the same triple sequence: 4938-4939, 9992, 10005, 10017. The good of the central or third heaven is called heavenly, the good of the intermediate or second is called spiritual, and the good of the outmost or first is called spiritual-natural: 4279, 4286, 4938, 4639, 9992, 10005, 10017, 10068.

Heaven and Hell #31 (Harley, 1958)

31. The Divine which inflows from the Lord and is received in the third or inmost heaven is called celestial, and in consequence, the angels there are called celestial angels. The Divine inflowing from the Lord and received in the second or middle heaven is called spiritual, and in consequence, the angels there are called spiritual angels. Whereas, the Divine inflowing from the Lord and received in the outermost or first heaven is called natural. But, because the natural of that heaven is not like the natural of the world but has in it the spiritual and the celestial, therefore that heaven is called spiritual- and celestial-natural, and in consequence, the angels there are called spiritual-natural and celestial-natural. 1Those who receive influx from the middle or second heaven, which is the spiritual heaven, are called spiritual-natural, and those who receive influx from the third or inmost heaven, which is the celestial heaven, are called celestial- natural. The spiritual-natural and the celestial-natural angels are distinct from each other, but yet they constitute one heaven because they are in one degree.

Footnotes:

1. There are three heavens, the inmost, the middle, and the outermost, or the third, the second, and the first (Arcana Coelestia 684, 9594, 10270); and the goods there follow also in a threefold order (Arcana Coelestia 4938-4939, 9992, 10005, 10017). The good of the inmost or third heaven is called celestial; the good of the middle or second heaven spiritual; and the good of the outermost or first heaven spiritual-natural (Arcana Coelestia 4279, 4286, 4938-4939, 9992, 10005, 10017, 10068).

Heaven and Hell #31 (Ager, 1900)

31. The Divine that flows in from the Lord and is received in the third or inmost heaven is called celestial, and in consequence the angels there are called celestial angels; the Divine that flows in from the Lord and is received in the second or middle heaven is called spiritual, and in consequence the angels there are called spiritual angels; while the Divine that flows in from the Lord and is received in the outmost or first heaven is called natural; but as the natural of that heaven is not like the natural of the world, but has the spiritual and the celestial within it, that heaven is called the spiritual-natural and the celestial-natural, and in consequence the angels there are called spiritual-natural and celestial-natural. 1Those who receive influx from the middle or second heaven, which is the spiritual heaven, are called spiritual-natural; and those who receive influx from the third or inmost heaven, which is the celestial heaven, are called celestial-natural. The spiritual-natural angels and the celestial-natural angels are distinct from each other; nevertheless they constitute one heaven, because they are in one degree.

Footnotes:

1. There are three heavens, inmost, middle, and outmost, or third, second, and first (Arcana Coelestia 684, 9594, 10270).

Goods therein also follow in triple order (4938-4939, 9992, 10005, 10017).

The good of the inmost or third heaven is called celestial, the good of the middle or second is called spiritual, and the good of the outmost or first, spiritual-natural (4279, 4286, 4938-4939, 9992, 10005, 10017, 10068).

De Coelo et de Inferno #31 (original Latin)

Footnotes:

1. Quod tres caeli sint, intimum, medium, et ultimum, seu tertium, secundum, et primum (684, 8594 [9594?] 10270). Quod etiam in triplici ordine sequantur bona ibi (4938, 4939, 9992, 10005, 10017).

Quod bonum intimi seu tertii caeli dicatur caeleste, bonum medii seu secundi spirituale, et bonum ultimi seu primi spirituale naturale (4279, 4286, 4938, 4639, 9992, 10005, 10017, 10068).
