Heaven and Hell #205 (NCE, 2000)

205. All the people in heaven are grouped according to spiritual affinities, which are matters of what is good and true in their pattern - the same way in the whole heaven as in each community and in each household. This is why angels who are involved in similar good and true activities recognize each other the way relatives and kindred spirits do on earth - just as though they had known each other from infancy.

The good and true elements that make up intelligence and wisdom are similarly arranged within each individual angel. They recognize each other in much the same way, and as they recognize each other, they unite. 1

As a result, people in whom things good and true are united according to heaven's form see things that follow in their sequence and how things fit together far and wide around them. It is different for people in whom things good and true are not united according to heaven's form.

Footnotes:

1. What is good recognizes its appropriate truth, and what is true recognizes its good: 2429, 3101-3102, 3161, 3179-3180, 4358, 5407 [5704?], 5835, 9637. This is the source of the union of what is good and what is true: 3834, 4096-4097, 4301, 4345, 4353, 4364, 4368, 5365, 7623-7627, 7752-7762, 8530, 9258, 10555; and this happens because of heaven's inflow: 9079.

Heaven and Hell #205 (Harley, 1958)

205. There is an association of all in heaven in accordance with spiritual affinities, which are those of good and truth in their order. It is so in the whole heaven, in each society and in each house. Because of this, angels who are in like good and truth recognize each other, as relatives by blood and marriage do on the earth, just as if they had known each other from infancy. The goods and truths which, in the case of any one angel, make his wisdom and intelligence, are associated in like manner. They recognize each other in like manner and as they recognize each other they join themselves together. 1In consequence, those in whom truths and goods are joined in accordance with the form of heaven see things following one after another in a series, and see how they cohere round about, far and wide. It is otherwise with those in whom goods and truths are not conjoined in accordance with the form of heaven.

Footnotes:

1. Good acknowledges its own truth, and truth its own good (Arcana Coelestia 2429, 3101-3102, 3161, 3179-3180, 4358, 5407, 5835, 9637); and hence is the conjunction of good and truth (Arcana Coelestia 3834, 4096-4097, 4301, 4345, 4353, 4364, 4368, 5365, 7623-7627, 7752-7762, 8530, 9258, 10555); for this is from the influx of heaven (Arcana Coelestia 9079).

------------

Heaven and Hell #205 (Ager, 1900)

205. There is an affiliation of all in heaven in accordance with spiritual relationships, that is, relationships of good and truth in their order. It is so in the whole heaven; so in each society, and so in each house. Because of this angels who are in like good and truth recognize each other, as relatives by blood and marriage do on the earth, precisely as if they had been acquainted from infancy. The good and truth in each angel, which constitute his wisdom and intelligence, are affiliated in like manner; they recognize each other in like manner, and as they recognize each other they join themselves together; 1and in consequence those in whom truths and goods are thus joined in accordance with a form of heaven see things following one another in series, and how they cohere widely round about; but those in whom goods and truths are not conjoined in accordance with the form of heaven do not see this.

Footnotes:

1. Good recognizes its truth, and truth its good (Arcana Coelestia 2429, 3101-3102, 3161, 3179-3180, 4358, 5704, 5835, 9637).

In this way good and truth are conjoined (3834, 4096-4097, 4301, 4345, 4353, 4364, 4368, 5365, 7623-7627, 7752-7762, 8530, 9258, 10555).

This is effected by influx from heaven (9079).

De Coelo et de Inferno #205 (original Latin)

Footnotes:

1. Quod bonum agnoscat suum verum, ac verum suum bonum (2429, 3101, 3102, 3161, 3179, 3180, 4358, 5407 [5704?] 5835, 9637).

Quod inde conjunctio boni et veri (3834, 4096, 4097, 4301, 4345, 4353, 4364, 4368, 5365, 7623-7627, 7752-7762, 8530, 9258, 10555).

Et quod hoc sit ex influxu caeli (9079).
