188、构成主的属天国度的天使大多住在高的地方,这些地方看似拔地而起的大山;构成主的属灵国度的天使大多住在不太高的地方,这些地方看似小山;而在天堂最低层部分的天使住的地方看似岩石区。这些都出于对应,因为内层事物对应于高层事物,外层事物对应于低层事物。{注1}这就是为何在圣经中“大山”表示属天之爱,“小山”表示属灵之爱,“磐石”表示信仰。{注2}

Heaven and Hell #188 (NCE, 2000)

188. The angels who constitute the Lord's heavenly kingdom live for the most part in loftier places that look like mountains above the ground. The angels who constitute the Lord's spiritual kingdom live in less lofty places that look like hills, while the angels who live in the lowest regions of heaven live in places that look like rocky cliffs. These things also stem from correspondences, since the deeper things correspond to higher ones and the more outward to lower ones. 1This is why mountains in the Word mean heavenly love, hills mean spiritual love, and rocks mean faith. 2

Footnotes:

1. In the Word, more inward things are expressed by "higher," and higher things mean more inward ones: 2148, 3084, 4599, 5146, 8325."High" means inner, and also heaven: 1735, 2148, 4210, 4599, 8153.

2. In heaven, one can see mountains, hills, rocks, valleys, and plains just as we can in this world: 10608. Angels who are in the good of love live on mountains, angels in the good of charity on hills, and angels in the good of faith on cliffs: 10438. Therefore mountains in the Word mean the good of love: 795, 4210, 6435, 8327, 8758, 10438, 10608. Hills mean the good of charity: 6435, 10438. Rocks mean the good and truth of faith: 8581, 10580. The stone from which rocks are made also means the truth of faith: 114, 643, 1298, 3720, 6426, 8608 [8609?], 10376. This is why mountains mean heaven: 8327, 8805, 9420; and why a mountaintop means the highest heaven: 9422, 9434, 10608. Therefore the early people held their holy worship on mountains: 796, 2722.

Heaven and Hell #188 (Harley, 1958)

188. The angels of whom the Lord's celestial kingdom consists dwell for the most part in elevated places that appear as mountains rising from the ground. The angels of whom the Lord's spiritual kingdom consists dwell in less elevated places that appear like hills, while the angels who are in the lowest parts of heaven dwell in places that appear like rocks of stone. All these things come into existence from correspondence, for interior things correspond to higher things and exterior things to lower things. 1This is why, in the Word, "mountains" signify celestial love, "hills", spiritual love, and "rocks", faith. 2

Footnotes:

1. In the Word interior things are expressed by higher things and higher things signify interior things (Arcana Coelestia 2148, 3084, 4599, 5146, 8325).

What is "high" signifies what is internal, and likewise heaven (Arcana Coelestia 1735, 2148, 4210, 4599, 8153).

2. In heaven, mountains, hills, rocks, valleys, and lands are seen exactly the same as in the world (Arcana Coelestia 10608).

On the mountains angels who are in the good of love dwell, on the hills those who are in the good of charity, on the rocks those who are in the good of faith (Arcana Coelestia 10438).

Therefore in the Word the good of love is signified by "mountains" (Arcana Coelestia 795, 4210, 6435, 8327, 8758, 10438, 10608).

The good of charity is signified by "hills" (Arcana Coelestia 6435, 10438).

The good and truth of faith is signified by "rocks" (Arcana Coelestia 8581, 10580).

"Stone", of which rock consists, in like manner signifies the truth of faith (Arcana Coelestia 114, 643, 1298, 3720, 6426, 8609, 10376).

This is why heaven is signified by "mountains" (Arcana Coelestia 8327, 8805, 9420).

And the highest part of heaven by "the summit of a mountain" (Arcana Coelestia 9422, 9434, 10608).

Also why the ancients had their holy worship on mountains (Arcana Coelestia 796, 2722).

Heaven and Hell #188 (Ager, 1900)

188. The angels of whom the Lord's celestial kingdom consists dwell for the most part in elevated places that appear as mountains of soil; the angels of whom the Lord's spiritual kingdom consists dwell in less elevated places that appear like hills; while the angels in the lowest parts of heaven dwell in places that appear like ledges of stone. These things spring from correspondence, for interior things correspond to higher things, and exterior things to lower things; 1 and this is why in the Word "mountains" signify celestial love, "hills" spiritual love, and "rocks" faith. 2

Arcana Coelestia 2148, 3084, 4599, 5146, 8325).

What is "high" signifies what is internal, and likewise heaven (1735, 2148, 4210, 4599, 8153).

10608).

On the mountains angels who are in the good of love dwell, on the hills those who are in the good of charity, on the rocks those who are in the good of faith (10438).

Therefore in the Word "mountains" signify the good of love (795, 4210, 6435, 8327, 8758, 10438, 10608).

"Hills" signify the good of charity (6435, 10438).

"Rocks" signify the good and truth of faith (8581, 10580).

"Stone," of which rock consists, in like manner signifies the truth of faith (114, 643, 1298, 3720, 6426, 8609, 10376).

This is why "mountains" signify heaven (8327, 8805, 9420).

And "the summit of a mountain" signifies the highest part of heaven (9422, 9434, 10608).

Also why the ancients had their holy worship on mountains (796, 2722).

De Coelo et de Inferno #188 (original Latin)
