120、通过对比尘世的太阳,可以看出神性之爱是何等伟大,是何性质。这爱最为炽热,比尘世的太阳还要强烈得多,如果你能相信的话。因此,显为太阳的主并非直接地流入众天堂,而是一路上祂的爱之炽热逐渐柔和,这些柔和的光就好像太阳周围的发光带。另外,天使被一层适宜的薄云遮掩着,防止被这流注所伤。{注1}因此,众天堂照着对来自主的流注的接受程度,离主或远或近。高层天堂因处在爱之良善中,离显为太阳的主最近;低层天堂因处在信之良善中,故离主较远。然而,那些没有处在良善中的人,如地狱中的人,离得最远,其距离取决于他们与良善对立的程度。{注2}

120. We can gather how great divine love is and what its quality is by comparison with the sun of our world - that love is most intense, far more intense, if you will believe it. So the Lord as the sun does not flow directly into the heavens; rather, the intensity of his love is by degrees tempered in its course. The stages of this tempering look like sparkling halos around the sun. Further, angels are shielded by a suitably thin cloud so that they will not be hurt by the inflow. 1As a result, the heavens are distanced according to their receptiveness. The higher heavens, being in the good of love, are closest to the Lord as the sun. The lower heavens, though, being in the good of faith, are farther from him. People who are engaged in nothing good whatever, like the people in hell, are farthest away, their removal being in proportion to their opposition to what is good. 2

120. How great the Divine love is and what is its nature can be confirmed from a comparison with the sun of the world in its greatest ardour. It is, if you will believe it, much more ardent than that sun. For this reason, the Lord as a Sun does not flow immediately into the heavens, but the ardour of His love is tempered by degrees on the way. These temperings appear as radiating belts around the sun. And in addition, the angels are veiled with a suitably thin cloud to prevent their being harmed by the influx. 1So, the heavens are separated in accordance with the reception [of influx from the Lord]. As the higher heavens are in the good of love, they are nearest to the Lord as a Sun, whereas the lower heavens being in the good of faith are further away from that Sun. Those, however, who are in no good, like those in hell, are furthest away, the extent of their remoteness being according to their opposition to good. 2
