  7873.“又要审判埃及一切的神明”表他们那即将受到诅咒的虚假。这从“神明”和“审判”的含义清楚可知:“神明”(gods)是指虚假,如下文所述;“审判”是指受到诅咒,因为审判或作出审判要么指向生命,要么指向死亡,指向生命的审判表示拯救,指向死亡的审判表示诅咒。在圣言中,经上经常提到“神明”。当天使被称为“神明”时,所表示的是真理(参看429544027268节);因此,“列族的神明”表示虚假(44024544节)。真理之所以被称为“神明”,是因为真理是从神自己发出的,本身就是属神(God)的。因此,那些接爱这真理的人被称为“神明”。倒不说他们是神明,而是说与他们同在的真理是属神的。这解释了为何在原文,神被称为复数形式的“耶洛因”。神本身是神性良善,但从发祂发出的,是充满整个天堂的神性真理。“神明”因表示真理,故在反面意义上表示虚假。

7873. And on all the gods of Egypt I will do judgments. That this signifies their falsities, which are to be damned, is evident from the signification of "gods," as being falsities (of which presently); and from the signification of "doing judgments," as being to be damned; for to judge, or do judgments, is either for life or for death; for life it denotes salvation, for death it denotes damnation. In the Word "gods" are often mentioned. When the angels are so called, truths are signified (see n. 4295, 4402, 7268); hence in the opposite sense by "the gods of the nations," are signified falsities (n. 4402, 4544). That truths are called "gods" is because truth proceeds from the Divine Itself, and in itself is Divine; consequently they who receive it are called "gods"-not that they are gods, but that the truth which is with them is Divine. Hence it is that in the original tongue God is called "Elohim," in the plural. The Divine Itself is the Divine good, but that which proceeds from it is the Divine truth, which fills the universal heaven. As then "god" denotes truth, therefore in the opposite sense it denotes falsity.

7873. 'And on all the gods of Egypt I will make judgements' means their falsities which are to be damned. This is clear from the meaning of 'gods' as falsities, dealt with below; and from the meaning of 'making judgements' as being damned, for to judge or to make judgements is to point either to life or to death; a judgement that points to life means salvation, one that points to death means damnation. The term 'gods' is used many times in the Word. When angels are called such, truths are meant, see 4295, 4402, 7268, and therefore in the contrary sense 'the gods of the nations' means falsities, 4402, 4544. The reason why truths are referred to as 'gods' is that truth emanates from God Himself and is in itself of God. Consequently those who receive that truth are called 'gods'. Not that they are gods; rather, the truth with them is of God. This explains why in the original language God is referred to by the plural noun Elohim. God Himself is Divine Goodness, but what emanates from Him is Divine Truth which fills the whole of heaven. So then, because 'god' means truth, falsity is meant by that word in the contrary sense.
