Potts(1905-1910) 5444

5444. And one is not. That this signifies that the Divine spiritual, which is the source, does not appear, is evident from the representation of Joseph, who here is the "one," as being the celestial of the spiritual, or what is the same thing, the Divine spiritual, or truth from the Divine (see n. 3969, 4286, 4592, 4723, 4727, 4963, 5249, 5307, 5331, 5332, 5417), and because all conjunction of truth in the natural proceeds from the Divine spiritual, it is called "the Divine spiritual which is the source;" and from the signification of "is not," as being that it does not appear; for it was, but did not appear to them, because the intermediate, which is "Benjamin," was not there.

Elliott(1983-1999) 5444

5444. 'And one is not' means that the Divine spiritual from which [the joining together begins] is not apparent. This is clear from the representation of Joseph, to whom 'one' refers here, as the celestial of the spiritual, or what amounts to the same, the Divine spiritual, which is truth from the Divine, dealt with in 3969, 4286, 4592, 4723, 4727, 4963, 5249, 5307, 5331, 5332, 5417 (and since the whole joining together of truth in the natural begins from the Divine spiritual, the expression 'the Divine spiritual from which' is used); and from the meaning of 'is not' as the fact that it is not apparent. For Joseph was present there but did not make it apparent to them who he was because the intermediary, which is 'Benjamin', was not with them.

Latin(1748-1756) 5444

@1 inde$ @2 i est$
