Divine Love and Wisdom #159 (Dole (2003))

159. Now since nature begins from this sun, and since everything that arises from it and is sustained by it is called "natural," it follows that nature and absolutely everything in it is dead. Nature seems to be alive in us and in animals because of the life that visits it and animates it.

Divine Love and Wisdom #159 (Rogers (1999))

159. Now because nature originates from that sun, and everything that arises and endures from it is called natural, it follows that nature with each and every one of its constituents is lifeless.

That nature appears in people and animals as alive is owing to the life which accompanies and activates it.

Divine Love and Wisdom #159 (Harley and Harley (1969))

159. Now because nature begins from that sun and everything that comes into, and remains in existence from it, is called natural, it follows that nature, with each and everything of it, is dead. Nature appears in man and in the animal as if living because of the life which accompanies and actuates it.

Divine Love and Wisdom #159 (Ager (1890))

159. Now since nature begins from that sun, and all that springs forth and continues to exist from it is called natural, it follows that nature, with each and every thing pertaining thereto, is dead. It appears in man and animal as if alive, because of the life which accompanies and actuates it.

De Divino Amore et de Divina Sapientia #159 (original Latin,1763)
