Apocalypse Revealed (Rogers translation 2007) 626

626. 14:6 Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth. This symbolizes an announcement of the Lord's advent, and of a new church to descend from Him out of heaven.

In the highest sense an angel means the Lord, and so also heaven (nos. 5, 344, 465). Another angel symbolizes something new now from the Lord. To fly in the midst of heaven means, symbolically, to look down, to observe and to foresee (no. 415), here to foresee something new in the church from the Lord out of heaven. The everlasting gospel symbolizes an announcement of the coming of the Lord and His kingdom (nos. 478, 553). Those who dwell on the earth symbolize people in the church to whom the announcement is made.

This serves also to announce that a new church is now about to descend from the Lord out of heaven, because the Lord's advent involves two elements: a last judgment and after that a new church. The last judgment is the subject of chapters 19, 20; and the new church, which is the New Jerusalem, is the subject of chapters 21, 22.

That the gospel and preaching the gospel symbolize an announcement of the advent of the Lord and His kingdom, can be clearly seen from the passages cited in no. 478, to which the reader is referred.

Apocalypse Revealed (Coulson translation 1970) 626

626. [verse 6] 'And I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the eternal gospel to declare (evangelizare) to those dwelling upon the land' signifies the announcement of the Lord's coming, and of the New Church going to come down out of heaven from Him. By 'an angel in the highest sense is understood the Lord, and consequently also heaven (5, 344, 465). By 'another angel' is signified a new thing now from the Lord. By 'to fly in the midst of heaven' is signified to look down on, observe, and provide for (415), here a new thing from the Lord out of heaven in the Church. By 'the eternal gospel' is signified the announcement of the coming of the Lord and His kingdom (478, 553). By 'those dwelling upon the land' are signified the men of the Church to whom the announcement is made. The reason why [the Lord] is to announce that the New Church is now going to come down out of heaven from Him is because the Lord's coming involves two things, a last judgment and after it a New Church. The last judgment is treated of in chapters 19; 20; and the New Church, which is the New Jerusalem, in chapters 21; 22. That by 'the gospel' and 'to declare' (evangelizare) is signified the announcement of the coming of the Lord and His kingdom is manifestly established from the passages quoted (478), which may be seen there.

Apocalypse Revealed (Whitehead translation 1928) 626

626. Verse 6. (Revelation 14:6) And I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the eternal gospel to proclaim unto them that dwell on the earth, signifies the annunciation of the Lord's advent, and of the New Church about to come down out of heaven from Him. By "an angel," in the highest sense, is meant the Lord, and thence also heaven (5, 344, 465). By "another angel" is signified something new from the Lord; by "flying in the midst of heaven" is signified to look down on, to observe, and to provide for, (415), here something new out of heaven from the Lord in the church. By the "eternal gospel" is signified the annunciation of the coming of the Lord and of His kingdom, (478, 553). By "them that dwell on the earth," are signified the men of the church to whom the annunciation will be made. The reason why it also means to announce that the New Church is now about to descend out of heaven from Him, is, because the Lord's coming involves two things, the Last Judgment, and after it the New Church. The Last Judgment is treated of in chapters 19, 20, and the New Church, which is the New Jerusalem, in chapters 21; 22. That by "the gospel" and "proclaiming" is signified the annunciation of the coming of the Lord and of His kingdom, appears evidently from the passages cited in 478, which may there be seen.

Apocalypsis Revelata 626 (original Latin 1766)

626. (Vers. 6.)
