  5805.“他哥哥死了”表内在良善不在了。这从“约瑟”的代表和“死”的含义清楚可知:“约瑟”是指属灵层的属天层(参看459249635249530753315332节),因而是指内在的良善,因为这内在良善和属灵层的属天层是一样的;“死”是指不复存在(494节)。系内在良善的“约瑟”的代表和系属灵良善的以色列的代表之间有这样的区别:“约瑟”是指源于理性层的内在良善,而“以色列”是指源于属世层的内在良善(参看4286节)。这种区别就像属天良善,或属于属天教会的良善与属灵良善,或属于属灵教会的良善之间的区别。我们在前文已频繁论述过这两种良善。可以说这种内在或属天良善不在那里,这由“他哥哥死了”来表示。

5805. And his brother is dead. That this signifies that internal good is not, is evident from the representation of Joseph, as being the celestial of the spiritual (see n. 4592, 4963, 5249, 5307, 5331, 5332), thus internal good, for this is the same as the celestial of the spiritual; and from the signification of "being dead," as being to be no more (n. 494). The difference between the representation of Joseph as being internal good, and that of Israel as being spiritual good, is this. "Joseph" is internal good from the rational, and "Israel" is internal good from the natural (see n. 4286). This difference is such as is that between celestial good, or the good that is of the celestial church, and spiritual good, or the good that is of the spiritual church, which goods have already been frequently treated of. It is said that such internal or celestial good is not there; which is signified by "his brother is dead."

5805. 'And his brother is dead' means that internal good does not exist. This is clear from the representation of 'Joseph' as the celestial of the spiritual, dealt with in 4592, 4963, 5249, 5307, 5731, 5332, thus internal good since this is the same as the celestial of the spiritual; and from the meaning of 'being dead' as existing no more, dealt with in 494. There is this difference between the representation of 'Joseph' as internal good and the representation of 'Israel' as spiritual good: 'Joseph' is internal good springing from the rational, whereas 'Israel' is internal good springing from the natural, see 4286. This difference is like that between celestial good, or the good which is that of the celestial Church, and spiritual good, or the good which is that of the spiritual Church. These two kinds of good have been dealt with quite often in what has gone before. It is the first kind of internal good - celestial good - that is said to be non-existent there, which is meant by 'his brother is dead'.
