[NCE]246. The meaning of the beast and the wild animal of the field as feelings is established by the things said about beasts and wild animals above at 45, 46. Let me add to those statements these verses in David:
Rain you stir up with goodwill, God. You are the one who strengthens your struggling inheritance. Your wild animal will live in it. (Psalms 68:9-10)
Here even a wild animal stands for a positive feeling, since this is what will live in God's inheritance.
The reason Genesis 3:14, like Genesis 2:19-20, speaks of the beasts and wild animals of the field while Genesis 1:24-25 speaks of those of the earth is that this verse describes the church, or in other words, a person who has been reborn. The first chapter, on the other hand, dealt with the absence of religion, or in other words, a person in need of regeneration. The word field applies to the church or the regenerate individual.

Potts(1905-1910) 246

246. That the "beast and the wild animal of the field" signify affections, is evident from what was previously said concerning them (n. 45 and 46), to which it is permitted to add the following passage from David:

Thou, O God, dost send the rain of Thy kindnesses; Thou confirmest Thy laboring inheritance; Thy wild animal shall dwell therein (Ps. 68:9-10), where also "wild animal" denotes the affection of good, because it is said that it shall "dwell in the inheritance of God." The reason why here, and also in chapter 2:19-20, the "beast and the wild animal of the field" are mentioned, while in chapter 1:24-25, the "beast and the wild animal of the earth" are named, is that the present passage treats of the church or regenerated man, whereas the first chapter related to what was as yet not a church, or to man about to become regenerate; for the word "field" is applied to the church, or to the regenerate.

Elliott(1983-1999) 246

246. 'Beast' and 'wild animal of the field' mean affections. This becomes clear from what has been stated already in 45, 46, about 'beast' and 'wild animal', to which let the following quotation from David be added,

You shake down a shower of blessings, O God; Your heritage which is labouring, You strengthen; Your wild animals will dwell in it. Ps 68:9, 10.

Here also 'wild animal' stands for the affection for good, since it is going 'to dwell in God's heritage'. The reason 'beast' and 'wild animal of the field' are mentioned here, as also in 2:19, 20, but 'beast' and 'wild animal of the earth' in 1:24, 25, is that the subject is the Church, that is, man when regenerate, whereas in Chapter 1 the subject is the time when the Church does not exist, that is, when man has yet to be regenerated; for 'field' is a term applying to the Church, that is, to man when regenerate.

Latin(1748-1756) 246

246. Quod 'bestia et fera agri' significent affectiones, constare potest ab iis quae de bestia et fera prius dicta sunt n. 45, 46; quibus addere licet quod apud Davidem, Pluviam benevolentiarum agitare facis Deus; hereditatem tuam [et] laborantem, Tu confirmas illam: fera tua habitabunt in ea, Ps. lxviii 10, 11 [A.V. 9, 10];
