1686、“乃是四王对五王”表示四王的结合,就是真理和良善的结合,以及五王的不结合,就是邪恶和虚假的不结合,这从“四”和“五”的含义清楚可知。“四”因由两对组成,故表示结合,二与事物之间的婚姻有关时也是如此,如前所述(720节)。然而,“五”表示不结合,或混乱,因为它表示少许,如前所示(649节)。一切事物的含义都取决于它们所论及的主题。

[NCE]1686. Four kings against five symbolizes the unity of the truth and goodness and the disunity of the evil and falsity, as the symbolism of four and of five shows. Four symbolizes unity because it symbolizes pairings, just as two does when it has to do with a marriage between things, as noted at 720. Five, however, symbolizes disarray because it symbolizes a small amount, as illustrated at 649. All meanings depend on the subject under discussion.

1686. Four kings with five. That this signifies the union of the last named, and the disunion of the first named, may be seen from the signification of "four," and of "five." "Four" signifies union, because it is made up of pairs, as also does two when it has relation to marriages of things (as was also observed, n. 720). But "five" signifies disunion, because it means but little (as shown n. 649). The signification of all things is in accordance with the subject of which they are predicated.

1686. 'Four kings with five' means the union existing with the latter four and the lack of union with the other five. This becomes clear from the meaning of 'four' and from the meaning of 'five'. Consisting of two pairs, 'four' means union, as also does two when it has regard to things that are married, as also noted in 720. 'Five' however means disunity because it is associated with fewness, as shown in 649. All things depend for their particular meanings on the subjects to which they refer.
