属天的奥秘 第100节

100、“园子”表示聪明,“伊甸”表示爱,这一点从以赛亚书也明显看出来:
耶和华要安慰锡安,安慰她所有的荒场,使她的旷野像伊甸,使她的荒漠像耶和华的园子。其中必有欢喜和快乐,称谢和歌唱声。(以赛亚书51:3)

[NCE]100. We can see in Isaiah too that a garden symbolizes intelligence and Eden love:
Jehovah will comfort Zion, he will comfort all its wastelands, and he will make its wilderness like Eden and its desert like a garden of Jehovah. Joy and gladness will be found in it; acclamation and the voice of song. (Isaiah 51:3)
The prophet uses wilderness, joy, and acclamation to express the heavenly (or loving) aspects of faith; desert, gladness, and the voice of song express further spiritual (or intellectual) aspects. The first set of words relates to Eden, the second to the garden. This particular prophet fairly consistently uses two words for a single idea, one word symbolizing heavenly things, and the other, spiritual things.{*1} For more on the meaning of the Garden of Eden, see the explanation of verse 10, below [108].

{*1} Here Swedenborg explicitly describes a feature of his biblical exegesis that will frequently recur: the interpretation of the elements of sense pairs in Hebrew poetry (here, for example, wilderness and desert, joy and gladness, acclamation and the voice of song) as relating to the heavenly (or good) and the spiritual (or true), respectively. 100. That a "garden" signifies intelligence, and "Eden" love, appears also from Isaiah:

Jehovah will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places, and He will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of Jehovah; joy and gladness shall be found therein, confession and the voice of singing (Isa. 51:3). In this passage, "wilderness" "joy" and "confession" are terms expressive of the celestial things of faith, or such as relate to love; but "desert" "gladness" and "the voice of singing" of the spiritual things of faith, or such as belong to the understanding. The former have relation to "Eden" the latter to "garden;" for with this prophet two expressions constantly occur concerning the same thing, one of which signifies celestial, and the other spiritual things. What is further signified by the "garden in Eden" may be seen in what follows at verse 10.

100. That 'a garden' means intelligence and 'Eden' love, is also evident in Isaiah,

Here 'wilderness', 'joy', and 'confession' are terms used by the prophet to express the celestial things of faith, that is, things that belong to love. But 'desert', 'gladness', and 'the voice of song' express the spiritual things of faith, which in turn are matters of the understanding The former relate to 'Eden', the latter to 'a garden'. For throughout this prophet dual expressions for the same thing are constantly occurring, with one expression meaning celestial things, the other spiritual.
