94. "'I know your works.'" This symbolically means that the Lord sees all those people's inner and outer qualities simultaneously.
This follows from our explanation in no. 76 above - in this case that He sees that they are caught up in falsities, and yet as to life are engaged in good endeavors, which they believe to be goods of life, even though they are not.
94. [verse 9] That 'I know thy works' signifies that the Lord sees all their interiors and exteriors at once is established from the things that have been expounded above (76). Here it signifies that He sees that they are in untruths, and yet as to life are in goods which they believe to be goods of life, when yet they are not.
