826. Sometimes to the people in a Parisian community in the spiritual world, a woman appears in midair, wearing radiant clothes and having a saintly face. She says that she is Genevieve. When people begin to worship her, however, her face and clothes immediately change; she becomes like an ordinary woman. She criticizes the people for wanting to worship a woman who is no more esteemed among her friends than a servant girl would be. She expresses amazement that people in the world are taken with such nonsense.

But when some people begin to worship her, her face and clothing at once change, and she becomes like an ordinary woman. She reproaches them for wanting to worship a woman who is no more regarded by her companions than a servant-girl, expressing surprise that people in the world are the dupes of such trickery.

To the Parisians, who form a society in the spiritual world, there sometimes appears a woman of the usual height in shining raiment and with a face that seems holy, and she calls herself Genevieve. But when some of them begin to worship her, her face and also her clothing instantly change, and she becomes like an ordinary woman; and she rebukes them for wanting to worship a woman who among her companions is no more esteemed than a servant maid, and is surprised that the men of the world are duped by such nonsense.

To Parisians who form a society in the spiritual world there sometimes appears at a medium altitude a certain woman, in shining raiment and of saintly countenance, calling herself Genevieve. 1 But when any begin to worship her, her countenance and also her raiment forthwith undergo a change, and she becomes like an ordinary woman. She reproves them for desiring to worship a woman, who in her own society is held in no greater estimation than a servant; and she wonders that men in the world should be duped by such nonsense.
