Divine Providence (Rogers translation 2003) 1

1. Divine Providence is the Government of the Lord's Divine Love and Wisdom.

To understand what Divine Providence is - that it is the government of the Lord's Divine love and wisdom - one ought to know what we said and showed previously concerning Divine love and wisdom in a treatise on that subject, namely the following:

That in the Lord Divine love is a property of Divine wisdom, and Divine wisdom a property of Divine love, Divine Love and Wisdom 34-39.

That Divine love and wisdom cannot but be and have expression in others it creates, Divine Love and Wisdom 47-51.

That everything in the universe has been created by Divine love and wisdom, Divine Love and Wisdom 52-53, 151-156.

That everything in the universe is a recipient of Divine love and wisdom, Divine Love and Wisdom 55-60.

That the Lord appears to angels as the sun, and that the heat emanating from that sun is love, and the light emanating from it is wisdom, Divine Love and Wisdom 83-98, 296-301.

That the Divine love and wisdom which emanate from the Lord are united, Divine Love and Wisdom 99-102.

That the Lord from eternity, who is Jehovah, created the universe and everything in it from Himself and not from nothing, Divine Love and Wisdom 282-284, 290-295.

Discussions of these points may be found in our treatise titled Angelic Wisdom Regarding Divine Love and Divine Wisdom.

Divine Providence (Dole translation 2003) 1

1. Angelic Wisdom about Divine Providence

Divine Providence Is the Form of Government Exercised by the Lord's Divine Love and Wisdom

To understand what divine providence is--that it is the way the Lord's divine love and wisdom govern us--it is important to be aware of the following things, which were presented in my book on the subject.

In the Lord, divine love is a property of divine wisdom and divine wisdom is a property of divine love (Divine Love and Wisdom 34-39).

Divine love and wisdom cannot fail to be and to be manifested in others that it has created (Divine Love and Wisdom 47-51).

Everything in the universe was created by divine love and wisdom (Divine Love and Wisdom 52, 53, 151-156).

Everything in the created universe is a vessel of divine love and wisdom (54-60 [55-60]).

The Lord looks like the sun to angels; its radiating warmth is love and its radiating light is wisdom (Divine Love and Wisdom 83-88, 89-92, 93-98, 296-301).

The divine love and wisdom that emanate from the Lord constitute a single whole (Divine Love and Wisdom 99-102).

The Lord from eternity, who is Jehovah, created the universe and everything in it from himself and not from nothing (Divine Love and Wisdom 282-284, 290-295). These propositions may be found in the work titled Angelic Wisdom about Divine Love and Wisdom.

Divine Providence (Dick and Pulsford translation 1949) 1

1. THE DIVINE PROVIDENCE IS THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DIVINE LOVE AND WISDOM OF THE LORD.

In order that it may be understood what the Divine Providence is, and that it may be seen to be the government of the Divine Love and Wisdom of the Lord, it is of importance that the propositions which have been advanced and illustrated concerning the Divine Love and Wisdom in the treatise on these subjects should be known. They are as follows: In the Lord the Divine Love is of the Divine Wisdom, and the Divine Wisdom is of the Divine Love (n. 34-39). The Divine Love and Wisdom cannot be and exist except in other things created by themselves (n. 47-51). All things in the universe were created by the Divine Love and Wisdom (n. 52-53, 151-156). All things in the universe are recipients of the Divine Love and Wisdom (n. 55-60). The Lord appears before the angels as a Sun, and the heat thence proceeding is Love and the light thence proceeding is Wisdom (n. 83-88, 89-92, 93-98, 296-301). The Divine Love and Wisdom which proceed from the Lord form one (n. 99-102). The Lord from eternity, who is Jehovah, created the universe and all things therein from Himself, and not from nothing (n. 282-284, 290-295). These propositions are set forth in the treatise entitled ANGELIC WISDOM CONCERNING THE DIVINE LOVE AND WISDOM.

Divine Providence (Ager translation 1899) 1

1. ANGELIC WISDOM CONCERNING THE DIVINE PROVIDENCE.

THE DIVINE PROVIDENCE IS THE GOVERNMENT OF THE LORD'S DIVINE LOVE AND DIVINE WISDOM.

To understand what the Divine providence is, and that it is the government of the Lord's Divine love and Divine wisdom, it is important to know what has already been said and shown respecting the Divine love and the Divine wisdom in the work on that subject, which is as follows:

In the Lord Divine love is of Divine wisdom, and Divine wisdom is of Divine love (Divine Love and Wisdom 34-39).

Divine love and Divine wisdom must necessarily have being and existence in other things created by them (Divine Love and Wisdom 47-51).

All things of the universe are creations from Divine love and Divine wisdom (Divine Love and Wisdom 52, 53, 151-156).

All things of the universe are recipients of Divine love and Divine wisdom (Divine Love and Wisdom 55-60).

Before the angels the Lord appears as a sun; and the heat that goes forth therefrom is love, and the light that goes forth therefrom is wisdom (Divine Love and Wisdom 83-88, 89-92, 93-98, 296-301).

The Divine love and the Divine wisdom that go forth from the Lord make one (Divine Love and Wisdom 99-102).

The Lord from eternity, who is Jehovah, created the universe and all things thereof from Himself, and not from nothing (Divine Love and Wisdom 282-284, 290-295).

These things are treated of in the work entitled Angelic Wisdom concerning the Divine Love and the Divine Wisdom.
