  9820.“使他分别为圣”表该国度的神性真理的一个代表将由此而存在。这从“分别为圣”的含义清楚可知,“分别为圣”是指被赋予来自主的神性真理。在圣言中,从主发出的神性真理被称为“圣”,因为唯独主是圣的,因此凡从祂发出之物也是圣的(参看9680节)。正因如此,从祂发出的神圣(影响)被称为“圣灵”,如刚才所示(9818节);关于这个主题,也可参看9229节所提到的地方。
  由此明显可知当如何理解“天使或使者”、“先知”和“使徒”被称为“圣”(“圣天使”见马太福音25:31;马可福音8:38;路加福音9:26;“圣先知”见启示录16:618:20;“圣使徒”见启示录18:20)。他们不是凭自己的任何东西,仅凭属主的东西而为圣。天使被称为圣,是因为他们是从主发出的神性真理的接受者;因此,在圣言中,他们表示神之真理,一般表示主的某种东西(1925282140854295节)。但先知被称为圣,是因为他们表示圣言,就是神性真理,尤其取自圣言的教义(253436527269节);使徒被称为圣,是因为他们表示整体上的一切信之真理和一切爱之良善(34883858e,6397节)。
  从主发出的神性真理是神圣本身,因而是主,主是神圣的源头,这一点从圣言中的许多经文明显看出来,对此,现仅引用主在约翰福音中的话:
  求父用真理使他们成圣;你的圣言就是真理。我为他们的缘故把自己分别为圣,叫他们也因真理成圣。(约翰福音17:1719
  由此明显可知,主就是使世人、灵人和天使分别为圣的那一位,因为唯独祂是神圣的(启示录15:4);他们仅在接受主,也就是从主接受对祂的信和爱的程度内而为圣。

9820. To sanctify him. That this signifies thereby a representative of the Divine truth in this kingdom, is evident from the signification of "to be sanctified," as being to be imbued with Divine truth from the Lord; for the Divine truth that proceeds from the Lord is what is called "holy" in the Word, for the reason that the Lord alone is holy, thus whatever proceeds from Him (see n. 9680). From this it is that the holiness which proceeds from Him is called "the Holy Spirit" (as shown just above, n. 9818, and on which subject see also what was adduced in the passages cited in n. 9229). [2] From this it is plain how it is to be understood that angels, prophets, and apostles are called "holy" ("holy angels" in Matt. 25:31; Mark 8:38; Luke 9:26; "holy prophets" in Rev. 16:6; 18:20; and "holy apostles" in Rev. 18:20), that is, not that they were holy from themselves, but from the Lord; "holy angels" because these are receptions of the Divine truth which is from the Lord, and therefore by them in the Word are signified truths Divine, and in general something of the Lord (n. 1925, 2821, 4085, 4295); "holy prophets" because by these is signified the Word which is Divine truth, and specifically doctrines derived from the Word (n. 2534, 3652, 7269); and "holy apostles" because by these is signified all the truth of faith and all the good of love in the complex (n. 3488, 3858, 6397). [3] That the Divine truth which proceeds from the Lord is holiness itself, thus the Lord, from whom is this holiness, is evident from many passages in the Word, of which may now be adduced only the words of the Lord in John:

Father, sanctify them in Thy truth; Thy Word is truth. For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified in the truth (John 17:17, 19);

from this it is evident that it is the Lord who sanctifies man, spirit, and angel, because He alone is holy (Rev. 15:4), and that they are holy only insofar as they receive of the Lord, that is, insofar as they receive from Him of faith and love to Him.

9820. 'To sanctify him' means that a representative sign of the Divine Truth in that kingdom will therefore exist. This is clear from the meaning of 'being sanctified' or 'being made holy' as being endowed with Divine Truth from the Lord. For in the Word Divine Truth emanating from the Lord is called 'Holy', because the Lord alone is Holy, as therefore is whatever emanates from Him, see 9680. So it is that the Holy [Influence] emanating from Him is called the Holy Spirit, as has been shown just above in 9818, regarding which see also the matters brought forward in the places referred to in 9229.

[2] From this it is evident what to understand when the adjective 'holy' is applied to the words 'angels', 'prophets', and 'apostles' - to 'angels' in Matt 25:31; Mark 8:38; Luke 9:26; to 'prophets' in Rev 16:6; 18:24; and to 'apostles' in Rev 18:20. They were holy not by virtue of anything their own, only by virtue of what was the Lord's. Angels are called holy because they are recipients of Divine Truth emanating from the Lord, for which reason they mean in the Word God's truths, and in general something that is the Lord's, 1925, 2821, 4085, 4295. But prophets are called holy because the Word, which is Divine Truth, and in particular teachings drawn from the Word, is meant by them, 2534, 3652, 7269; and apostles because every truth of faith and good of love in their entirety are meant by them, 3488, 3858 (end), 6397.

[3] The fact that Divine Truth emanating from the Lord is Holiness itself, thus is the Lord who is its Source, is clear from a large number of places in the Word, of which for now let just the following words of the Lord in John be quoted,

Father, make them holy in Your truth; Your Word is truth. For their sakes I make Myself holy, that they also may be made holy in the truth. John 17:17, 19.

From this it is evident that the Lord is the One who makes man, spirit, and angel holy, for He alone is Holy, Rev 15:4, and that they are holy in the measure that they receive the Lord, that is, in the measure that they receive from Him the power to believe in Him and to love Him.
