Potts(1905-1910) 6737

6737. And she had compassion on him. That this signifies admonition from the Divine, is evident from the signification of "having compassion," as being an influx of charity from the Lord; for when anyone from charity sees another in misery (as here Pharaoh's daughter saw the child in the ark of rush and weeping), compassion arises; and as this is from the Lord, it is an admonition. Moreover, when they who are in perception feel compassion, they know that they are admonished by the Lord to give aid.

Elliott(1983-1999) 6737

6737. 'And she took pity on him' means being alerted by the Divine. This is clear from the meaning of 'taking pity' as an influx of charity from the Lord, for when anyone looks with charity on someone in distress, as Pharaoh's daughter does here on the child crying in the box made of rush, a feeling of compassion is aroused. And since the feeling is stirred by the Lord, it is an alerting by Him. Indeed when people who are perceptive have feelings of compassion they know that they are being alerted by the Lord to offer help.

Latin(1748-1756) 6737

6737. `Et miserta super illum': quod significet admonitionem a Divino, constat ex significatione `misereri' quod sit influxus charitatis a Domino, {1}nam cum quis ex charitate videt aliquem in miseria, ut hic filia Pharaonis natum in capsa junci et flentem, existit commiseratio, et quia haec {2}a Domino, est admonitio; qui etiam in perceptione sunt, cum commiserantur, sciunt quot admoneantur a Domino ut opem ferant. @1 et$ @2 quia charitas written above$
