[NCE]58. Genesis 1:30. "And every wild animal of the earth and every bird in the heavens and every animal creeping on the earth, in which there is a living soul — every green plant will serve them for nourishment;" and so it was done.
This verse depicts the spiritual person's earthly food. The wild animal of the earth symbolizes such a person's earthly plane of existence, as does the bird in the heavens, both of which received for nourishment the green plant or grass. Concerning this person's two kinds of food — both earthly and spiritual — David has the following to say:
Jehovah causes grain to sprout for the beast and plants for the service of humankind, to bring bread from the earth. (Psalms 104:14)
"The beast" stands for the wild animal of the earth and at the same time for the bird in the heavens, both of which David mentions in verses 11-12 of the same psalm.

58. Verse 30. And to every wild animal of the earth, and to every fowl of the heavens, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is a living soul, I give every green herb for food; and it was so. The natural meat of the same man is here described. His natural is signified by the "wild animal of the earth" and by the "fowl of the heavens" to which there are given for food the vegetable and the green of the herb. Both his natural and his spiritual food are thus described in David:

Jehovah causeth the grass to grow for the beast, and herb for the service of man, that he may bring forth bread out of the earth (Ps. 104:14), where the term "beast" is used to express both the wild animal of the earth and the fowl of the heavens which are mentioned in verses 11 and 12 of the same Psalm.

58. Verse 30 And to every wild animal of the earth and to every bird of the air,a and to everything creeping over the earth in which there is a living soul [I give] every plant for food; and it was so. The natural food of this same [spiritual man] is being described here. His natural level is here meant by 'wild animal of the earth' and by 'bird of the air, to which 'the edible and green plantb has been given for food'. Both kinds of food, natural and spiritual, are referred to in David as follows,

Jehovah causes the grass to grow for the beast, and the plant for man's service, that he may bring forth bread from the earth. Ps 104:14.
Here 'beast' stands for both wild animals of the earth and birds of the air,a both being mentioned in verses 11, 12 of that Psalm.

58. Vers. 30. Et omni ferae terrae, et omni avi caelorum, et omni reptanti super terra, in quo anima vivens, omne viride herbae in escam; et factum ita. Cibus ejusdem naturalis hic describitur; naturale ejus significatum est hic per 'feram terrae' et per 'avem caelorum,' quibus datum est in escam 'olus et viride herbae': de utroque ejus cibo, tam naturali quam spirituali, ita apud Davidem, Jehovah germinare facit gramen bestiae, et herbam in ministerium hominis, ad educendum panem e terra, Ps. civ 14;

ubi 'bestia' pro fera terrae et simul pro avi caelorum, quas nominat ibi vers. 11, 12.
