[NCE]1504.{*1} Perception and Auras in the Other Life (Continued)
In the other life, as mentioned [搂搂1388, 1396], one individual recognizes another's character as soon as that other approaches, even if she or he says nothing. This experience reveals the fact that our inward reaches are somehow active (although we are unaware of it) and that their activity enables others to perceive what kind of spirit we are. I was able to see the truth of this by observing that the aura of this activity not only radiates far and wide but sometimes (when the Lord allows) makes itself perceptible in various ways.

Footnotes:
{*1} The story of Jacob's move to Egypt is told in Genesis 45-46. The reasoning behind the assertion that Abram's stay marked the beginning of the four hundred thirty years is given in 搂搂2959, 7985. Galatians 3:16-17 assumes the same starting date. [LHC, RS]

1504. CONTINUATION CONCERNING PERCEPTION; AND CONCERNING SPHERES IN THE OTHER LIFE It has already been said that it is known in the other life what another is on his first approach, even though he does not speak. From this it may be known that a man's interiors are in a kind of unconscious activity, and that from this the quality of the spirit is perceived. That it is so has been evidenced by the fact that this sphere of the activity not only extends itself to a distance, but that sometimes also, when the Lord permits, it is in various ways made perceptible to the senses.

1504. a PERCEPTIONS AND SPHERES IN THE NEXT LIFE- continued

It has been stated already that in the next life the character of another is recognized as soon as he starts to approach, even though he does not say anything. From this one may see that man's interiors are engaged in a kind of undiscerned activity, and that from this the nature of the spirit is perceived. That this is so has become clear to me from the fact that the sphere emanating from this activity not only spreads itself a long way out but also that sometimes, when the Lord permits, it becomes in various ways perceptible to the senses.

Notes

a There is no paragraph 1503 in the Latin.
