[NCE]1234. The symbolism of Aram as a knowledge of goodness was demonstrated directly above.
The symbolism of the sons of Aram as further knowledge derived from it and the effects of that knowledge follows logically. The knowledge derived from a knowledge of goodness is earthly truth. The effects of that knowledge are actions taken in accord with it. These symbolisms cannot easily be demonstrated from the Word because the names are not among those that come up frequently. The only reference is to Uz, in Jeremiah 25:20 and Lamentations 4:21.{*1} From this it now follows that Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash, each symbolize a different type of this knowledge and of action taken in accord with it.

Footnotes:
{*1} Hul, Gether, and Mash are mentioned only in Genesis 10:23 (the verse here interpreted) and in the parallel genealogy in 1 Chronicles 1:17. The other passages Swedenborg cites here, Jeremiah 25:20 and Lamentations 4:21, speak of "the land of Uz;" this land is also mentioned in Job 1:1. Individuals named Uz (or Huz) also appear in Genesis 22:21; 36:28; 1 Chronicles 1:17, 42; but although Swedenborg quotes some of these passages, nowhere else in this work or in any of his other works does he explain in further detail the spiritual meaning of the name Uz. Potts(1905-1910) 1234

1234. That "Aram" signifies the knowledges of good, has been shown just above. That "the sons of Aram" are the derivative knowledges, and the things which are of knowledges, follows. These derivative knowledges are natural truths; and the things which are of knowledges are the things done according to them. That these things are signified cannot be so well confirmed from the Word, because these are not among the names that are frequently mentioned. Only Uz is mentioned, in Jeremiah 25:20, and Lam. 4:21. It follows then that "Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash" signify so many kinds of these knowledges, and of deeds according thereto.

Elliott(1983-1999) 1234

1234. That 'Aram' means cognitions of good has been shown just above, from which it follows that 'the sons of Aram' are derivative cognitions and the products of cognitions. Derivative cognitions are natural truths, while the products of cognitions are deeds done in accordance with them. The fact that these things are meant cannot be confirmed so easily from the Word, for they are not among the names that are mentioned frequently. Uz alone is mentioned, in Jer 25:20 and Lam 4:21. From this then it follows that 'Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash' mean just so many types of these cognitions, and of deeds done in accordance with them.
