  10176.出埃及记30:1-10.你要造一座烧香的坛;要用皂荚木来造。这坛要长一肘,宽一肘,要四方的;高二肘。坛角要与坛接连一块。你要用纯金把坛、坛顶、坛周围的壁和坛角包裹;又要在周围给坛镶上金边。要从坛边下面给它作两个金环,在它两肋。要在坛两旁作它们。它们要作为穿杠的容器,用来穿杠抬坛。要用皂荚木作杠,用金包裹它们。要把坛放在法柜前的帷帐外,在法版上的施恩座前面,就是我要与你相会的地方。亚伦每早晨要在坛上烧香料作的香;收拾灯的时候,要烧这香。亚伦在傍晚之间使灯燃起的时候,要烧这香,在耶和华面前世世代代不断的香。不可使异样的香、燔祭和素祭上到这坛上;也不可在这坛上浇奠祭。亚伦要一年一次用赎罪的罪祭的血在坛角上赎罪;他要一年一次在坛上赎罪,直到世世代代。这坛献与耶和华为至圣。

10176. THE INTERNAL SENSE. Verses 1-10. And thou shalt make an altar for the burning of incense; of shittim wood shalt thou make it. A cubit the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof; four square shall it be; and two cubits the height thereof; out of it shall be its horns. And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, its roof and its walls round about, and its horns; and thou shalt make for it a border of gold round about. And thou shalt make for it two rings of gold from under its border, upon its two ribs; upon its two sides shalt thou make them; and it shall be for receptacles for the staves, to carry it in them. And thou shalt make the staves of shittim wood, and shalt overlay them with gold. And thou shalt put it before the veil that is over the ark of the Testimony, before the propitiatory that is over the Testimony, whither I will come to meet thee. And Aaron shall burn thereon incense of spices morning by morning, in dressing the lamps he shall burn it. And when Aaron maketh the lamps to go up between the evenings, he shall burn it, a continual incense before Jehovah to your generations. Ye shall not make strange incense go up upon it, nor a burnt-offering, nor a meat-offering; and ye shall pour no drink-offering upon it. And Aaron shall make expiation upon the horns of it once in the year, from the blood of the sin-offering of expiations; once in the year he shall make expiation upon it to your generations; a Holy of holies is this to Jehovah. "And thou shalt make an altar for the burning of incense" signifies a representative of the grateful hearing and reception by the Lord of all things of worship which are from love and charity; "of shittim wood shalt thou make it" signifies from love Divine; "a cubit the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof" signifies equally from good and from truth; "foursquare shall it be" signifies thus perfect; "and two cubits the height thereof" signifies the degrees of good and of truth, and their conjunction; "out of it shall be its horns" signifies the powers of truth from the good of love and of charity; "and thou shalt overlay it with pure gold" signifies a representative of all things of worship from good; "its roof" signifies the inmost; "and its walls round about" signifies the interiors; "and its horns" signifies the exteriors; "and thou shalt make for it a border of gold round about" signifies a bounding from good lest they be approached and injured by evils; "and thou shalt make for it two rings of gold from under its border" signifies the sphere of Divine good, through which are conjunction and preservation; "upon its two ribs" signifies with truths on the one side; "upon its two sides shalt thou make them" signifies with good on the other side; "and it shall be for receptacles for the staves" signifies the power of truth from good there; "to carry it in them" signifies its consequent preservation in its state; "and thou shalt make the staves of shittim wood" signifies power from the good of the Lord's love; "and shalt overlay them with gold" signifies the foundation of all things upon good; "and shalt put it before the veil that is over the ark of the Testimony" signifies in the interior heaven where it is conjoined with the inmost heaven; "before the propitiatory that is over the Testimony" signifies where there is the hearing and reception by the Lord of all things of worship from the good of love; "whither I will come to meet thee" signifies in this way the presence and influx of the Lord; "and Aaron shall burn thereon" signifies the uplifting by the Lord of worship from love and charity; "incense of spices" signifies grateful hearing and reception; "morning by morning" signifies when the state of love is in clearness; "in dressing the lamps he shall burn it" signifies when truth also comes into its light; "and when Aaron maketh the lamps to go up between the evenings, he shall burn it" signifies an uplifting also in an obscure state of love when truth also is in its shade; "a continual incense before Jehovah" signifies in all worship from love from the Lord; "to your generations" signifies to eternity with those who are in faith from love; "ye shall not make strange incense go up upon it" signifies no worship from any other love than the love of the Lord; "nor a burnt-offering, nor a meat-offering" signifies no representative there of regeneration through the truths and goods of celestial love; "and ye shall pour no drink-offering upon it" signifies no representative there of regeneration through the truths and goods of spiritual love; "and Aaron shall make expiation upon the horns of it" signifies purification from evils through the truths of faith which are from the good of love; "once in the year" signifies perpetually; "from the blood of the sin-offering of expiations" signifies through the truths which are from the good of innocence; "once in the year he shall make expiation upon it" signifies the perpetual removal of evils; "to your generations" signifies those of the church who are in the truths and goods of faith; "a Holy of holies is this to Jehovah" signifies because from the Divine celestial.

And two rings of gold you shall make for it under its rim on its two ribs; you shall make [them] on its two sides. And they shall serve asc receptacles for the poles, to carry it on them. And you shall make the poles from pieces of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold. And you shall put it before the veil that is over the ark of the Testimony, before the mercy-seat which is above the Testimony, where I will meet with you. And Aaron shall burn on it incense of spices morning by morningd; when adorninge the lamps he shall burn it. And when Aaron causes the lamps to go upf between the evenings he shall burn it; incense shall be continual before Jehovah throughoutg your generations. You shall not cause strangeh incense to go up on it, or a burnt offering, or a minchah; and you shall not pour a drink offering on it. And Aaron shall make expiation on its horns once a year with the blood of the sin [offering] of expiations; once a year he shall make expiation on it throughoutg your generations. It is the holy of holiesi to Jehovah.

'And you shall make an altar for burning incense' means that which is representative of the Lord, of His hearing and receiving with pleasure everything of worship that springs from love and charity. 'With pieces of shittim wood you shall make it' means from love that is Divine. 'A cubit shall be its length, and a cubit its breadth' means consisting equally of good and of truth. 'Square shall it be' means that which is therefore perfect. 'And two cubits shall its height be' means degrees of the good and truth, and the joining together of them. 'Its horns shall be of one piece with it' means the powers of truth derived from the good of love and charity. 'And you shall overlay it with pure gold' means a representative sign of everything of worship that arises from good. 'Its roof' means what is inmost. 'Its walls' means inner levels. 'And its horns' means outer levels. 'And you shall make for it a rim of gold round about' means a border of good, serving to defend them from the approach of evils and the harm these can do. 'And two rings of gold you shall make for it under the rim' means the sphere of Divine Good by means of which a joining together and preservation are effected. 'On its two ribs' means with truths lying in one direction. 'You shall make [them] on its two sides' means with good lying in the other. 'And they shall serve as receptacles for the poles' means the power there of truth derived from good. 'To carry it on them' means the resulting preservation in that condition. 'And you shall make the poles from pieces of shittim wood' means the power derived from the good of the Lord's love. 'And overlay them with gold' means the founding of all things on good. 'And you shall put it before the veil that is over the ark of the Testimony' means in the inner heaven, at the point where it is joined to the inmost heaven. 'Before the mercy-seat which is above the Testimony' means where the Lord hears and receives everything of worship arising from the good of love. 'Where I will meet with you' means the resulting presence and influx of the Lord. 'And Aaron shall burn on it' means the raising up by the Lord of worship springing from love and charity. 'Incense of spices' means hearing and receiving with pleasure. 'Morning by morning' means whenever a state of love in clearness exists. 'When adorning the lamps he shall burn it' means whenever truth as well comes into its own light. 'And when Aaron causes the lamps to go up between the evenings he shall burn it' means the raising up also in an obscure state of love, when also truth exists in its shade. 'Incense shall be continual before Jehovah' means in all worship springing from love received from the Lord. 'Throughout your generations' means to eternity among those with faith springing from love. 'You shall not cause strange incense to go up on it' means no worship springing from any love other than that of the Lord. 'Or a burnt offering, or a minchah' means that nothing representative of regeneration by means of the truths and forms of good belonging to celestial love should be there. 'And you shall not pour a drink offering on it' means that nothing representative of regeneration by means of the truths and forms of good belonging to spiritual love should be there. 'And Aaron shall make expiation on its horns' means purification from evils by means of the truths of faith which spring from the good of love. 'Once a year' means everlastingly. 'With the blood of the sin [offering] of expiations' means by means of truths which spring from the good of innocence. 'Once a year he shall make expiation on it' means the everlasting removal of evils. 'Throughout your generations' means members of the Church with whom the truths and forms of the good of faith are present. 'It is the holy of holies to Jehovah' means since it comes from the Divine Celestial.
