[NCE]1012. In a literal sense, those who shed the blood of a person in a person will have their own blood shed is about shedding another person's blood. In an inner sense, however, it is not about anything belonging to others but about the charity in oneself. That is why the text goes on to speak of "the blood of a person in a person." When the literal sense mentions two things, sometimes the inner sense means just one. The inner self is the "person in a person," so all those who extinguish charity (which belongs to the inner self, or rather is the inner self) will have their own blood shed. That is, they will condemn themselves.

Potts(1905-1910) 1012

1012. The literal meaning of the words: "whoso sheddeth man's blood in man, his blood shall be shed" is one who sheds another's blood; but in the internal sense it is not another's blood, but charity in oneself. For this reason it is said "man's blood in man." Sometimes when two are spoken of in the literal sense, only one is meant in the internal sense. The internal man is man in man. Whoso therefore extinguishes charity, which is of the internal man, or is the internal man himself, his blood shall be shed, that is, he condemns himself.

Elliott(1983-1999) 1012

1012. The literal sense of the words 'whoever sheds man's blood in man, his blood shall be shed' implies someone shedding another' s blood, whereas the internal sense does not imply another's blood but the charity residing with oneself. Hence also the wording 'man's blood in man'. Sometimes when the literal sense refers to two people, only one person is meant in the internal sense. 'Man within man' is the internal man, and therefore whoever destroys charity which belongs to the internal man, or is the internal man himself, 'his blood shall be shed', that is, he condemns himself.
